In 2015, Brookwood Tree Consulting completed a GIS-based inventory of the Midtown Improvement District’s (MID) tree canopy and tallied up over 2,200 trees that shade the sidewalks and streets in the district. That’s about 100 trees for every mile of sidewalk in Midtown.
The inventory serves as an exhaustive record of the size, health, and condition of every single street tree in the MID. In addition to the heath of Midtown’s canopy, the inventory also catalogued the various tree species, which includes overcup, nuttall, and willow oaks as well as American and lacebark elms. All of this detailed data helps Midtown Alliance’s capital projects team track the changes in each tree’s growth pattern as well as plan for future treatments and replacements.
